There are a few simple things you can do while you are pregnant that will not only strengthen your connection with baby but will help sooth baby once baby is born.
First, play music. This can be anything you want. Ideally you would pick some soothing lullabies and play them every day, a couple times a day, while pregnant. Baby can hear the music and will get used to it. Once baby is born you will be able to play the same music and baby will most likely respond to it.
Along with playing music singing is a wonderful thing to do for baby. Baby will know your voice and it will help you two connect. Don’t worry about singing well… baby can’t tell the difference.
Another great thing to help connect with baby is reading. I know it sounds silly but you can start reading to baby while you are pregnant. The soft rhythmic tones of your voice will sooth baby in your tummy and out. You can continue to read to baby once baby is born. It’s a great thing to do at least once a day.
Dance, Dance, Dance. While pregnant its great exercise for you and will be fun for baby if you dance a couple times a week. Put on some rocking music and go crazy!
Lastly is infant massage; a fantastic way to connect to baby. This can start while pregnant. Lightly massaging your tummy with oils or lotions will help create a deeper physical connection. Once baby is born you can do infant massage on baby every day. Light soft touches on baby’s arms, tummy, legs and head will help calm baby and intensify your connection. There are plenty or books or classes you can reference to learn specific but any nice touching will be helpful!
